A Taste of Pittsford raises approximately $14,000 each year for
local charities and international community
service projects. (About $100,000 since its
inception.) Proceeds from ticket sales go
directly to charitable projects, thanks to
the generosity of the restaurants and wine
vendors who supply the food and beverage
at no cost to the event). Nazareth College
also donates the use of their facility, Schults
Center, during the March early spring school
break. It is a great event for Pittsford area restaurants
and Finger Lakes Wineries to connect with
potential customers. Other local businesses
underwrite expenses such as bottled water,
valet parking, entertainment, etc.
Typically the event has 12 to 14 food stations
and 4 to 6 beverage stations. New additions to the 2011 event were a beer
garden, a live band, and a silent auction
for some very unique items or experiences.
These additions will continue through the
2012 Taste of Pittsford event. Tickets are $45 per person. Ticket
sales are limited to 400. The event sells
out and there are no tickets available for
sale at the door.

A Humorous Look at Eating and Dining:
How to Gorge Without Embarrassing Yourself*
Sometimes, we all have to eat a lot. And
sometimes, you can eat a lot, but do not
wish to make a pig of yourself. Therefore,
you have to starve yourself before going
to an event or fancy restaurant to get your money's value. What to Do?While eating, grab whatever you want to eat,
but mix it with some healthy dishes so it
looks like you are eating healthy. Get a large chunk of food then hide it in
your purse, pocket or coat. Go to the toilet
or bathroom and eat it very quickly so that
the other guests do not think or say, "What
took so long?" Once the cake is served, take a big slice.
Therefore, if someone asks, how many slices
did you get, you can confidently respond:
"I just had one." (Of course, you
took half the cake, but it is still considered
as a single slice.) Do not be afraid to hide and feed yourself.
You'd be surprised to learn that tons
of people do it each day. Tips and Advice
Shove a bunch of food in your mouth and chew
very slowly. Put smaller portions of each dish on your
plate. It appears like you are eating healthy.
But putting in small portions does not mean
you can not go more than once. So as not to get caught going back several
times, go to the buffet line in different
directions. (This way, you don't always
bump into the same people). DisclaimersDo not get caught. This is one of the most
shameful things that can happen to you especially
in a buffet restaurant. Look around before hand, but do not be
obvious. For example, use the reflection
of your watch to look behind you. Look casual as you drag any junk food on
your plate. Do not eat or lick any fingers while in a
buffet line. That's just disgusting. A Taste of Pittsford allows you to eat as much as you want of
gourmet creations from Rochester restaurants, perhaps bring home a few goodies, drink
all the wine and spirits from Finger Lakes wineries (make sure that you have a designated driver)
and a chance to get some fabulous auctions
items at half their retail value from our
silent auction donated by Pittsford businesses and individuals....all of these for a very
good cause. * The information on this site is not intended

These days, it appears that there is almost
never enough time to produce a nourishing
meal for the household. With both parents
working, and frequently for prolonged hours,
numerous households are abandoning the tradition
of a household dinner all together. So, what can be done to rescue ourselves
from a future of instant impersonal meals,
continuously ordering pizza and spending
far too much eating at Pittsford restaurants every day? We need to find effortless
and nourishing gourmet dishes that take very short time to cook. There are several TV programs these days
which are focused on making the “30
minute” gourmet meal, Aladdin's
mediterranean salad and similar subjects.
Many of the tips shared are sensible and
easy to follow. For example, developing
a bunch of dinners on the weekend and storing
them in the freeze, then reheating them when
needed can save a great deal of time during
on those hurried work days. Additionally, discovering some easy and quick
recipes can’t be a bad idea.
The internet has numerous recipe web sites
running from the simple to the very complex.
Of course, if one is expecting to put together
a dinner after work, it is crucial to keep the necessary ingredients
ahead of time. For example, having frozen turkey, raw onions,
raw carrots and fresh celery on hand will
make a simple and hearty soup. These ingredients can also be used
in many other recipes. Keep a small
supply of your household's favorite spices
and dried herbs in the kitchen so they are
always available when needed. Unless you can shop daily at a local market
place, your best plan would be to buy your
ingredients in bulk, whether frozen or fresh,
and store them suitably in a freezer or fridge.
Buying in volume tends to be cheaper in the
long haul, as long as the food is actually
being consumed rather than spoiling.
With the proliferation of enterprises such
as BJ's and Sam’s Club, purchasing
in bulk is even more painless than ever nowadays. So what is for dinner? More Pittsford restaurant food? Better yet save that money for
the " Taste of Pittford" event. This way, not only do
get to eat from the best restaurants in Rochester and Pittsford, you will help buy a couple
of dictionaries to 3rd graders. This
in itself is priceless. So, how about
taking the dive and fixing something yummy
and great, and save money for the Taste of Pittsford event on March 12, 2012? This website was created by Grace Soong at:

A little short on cash? How about cutting
back on fast-food meals? Read about
how fast food restaurants target children at Taste of Pittsford's blog:
Teenagers and children view significantly
more ads for fast food than same-aged children
did in 2003. This is based on a year-long
study which analyzed data on the nutritional
value of food and the media exposure conducted
by members of the Yale Rudd Center for Food
Policy and Obesity. Findings of the research are available online
at Fast Food FACTS. The report suggests that
fast-food companies are increasing efforts to market unhealthy
meal options to children, without equally
promoting healthy choices.
