A Humorous Look at Eating and Dining:

How Not to Wear Your Pasta Dish*
(or How to Eat Spaghetti Without Looking Stupid)

Some people cannot handle it. Maybe you're one of those folks who wears the pasta sauce after every meal. Well, you do not have to be one of those folks anymore.  Here's how to eat pasta without looking stupid:

IMPORTANT NOTE: One, this will not work if you use chopsticks. Two, the tips contained here are for a plate of spaghetti, linguini or other long pasta. If you can't handle rigatoni, ziti or other short pasta, I can't help you...you're hopeless.

Ask the waiter for a spoon when you get your order (that's, if you do not have one, duh). It is easier to turn the fork on the spoon if you have one, but it's no big deal if your server does not give you one.

Next, put a napkin on your lap.  This will catch any unexpected droppings. Plus, if you have the habit of wiping your hands on your clothes, you can use the napkin instead.

Take the fork (make sure it's yours) and take two or three noodles with the fork, but no more than four. Key is to eat pasta in small bites. Do not eat one noodle at a time, or you'll end up looking stupid (besides, you'll be eating all night at that pace).

Take the spoon and point the tines of the fork on the concaved side of the spoon.  Then twirl the fork (clockwise, counterclockwise if you are a lefty) around the spoon until all the pasta wraps around your fork. If you do not have a spoon, you can just use your plate.

Next, open wide. I mean, literally open wide. You'll have to take a pretty big bite for 3 strands of pasta. This is to prevent the sauce from staining the corners of your mouth. Now, this is especially true for you people with small mouths. However, do not open your mouth so wide that you look like you are getting a root canal.  That'll make you look like an amateur.  Remember, you have to look like you've done this a million times.  Especially if you've got a hot date.

Use your napkin often just in case. Ask your date a question after you wipe your mouth.  This'll take his/her mind away from wondering why you're constantly wiping.  Don't use the back of your hands, your pants, your tie, your sleeves as a napkin.  That's disgusting.

Finally, practice, practice, practice.  Cook spaghetti or linguini at home and practice the twirling technique without any marinara sauce.  When you've mastered the twirling, you're ready to add on the marinara.  Just remember to work-out afterward.  Pasta is full of carbs!

Owner of Max Market Cafe, Tony Gullace, Opens Duck Soupe in Downtown Rochester

At the Taste of Pittsford event, last March, 2011 Max Market Cafe offered delicious treats of award-winning dishes.  Owner, Tony Gullace, just opened his seventh restaurant, Duck Soupe, located on 350 East Main Street, Rochester.  Gullace says that Duck Soupe is their downtown breakfast and lunch venue. They wanted to do something fun and interesting. The place became available and they saw it as an opportunity to expand into a new market.

For Mr. Gullace, opening another downtown restaurant was easy.  He already has Max of Eastman Place on Gibbs Street and a cafe inside the Eastman Theatre; Max Chophouse and Max Market in Brighton; Max at the Gallery at the Memorial Art Gallery; and Max at High Falls.
